Spousal Support in Florida

In Florida, a judge may award temporary spousal support or permanent spousal support. If the parties do not wish to have a judge determine the issue of support, they may reach an agreement on the issue of support — as well as property division, child support and all other issues present in the divorce. If your case goes to trial, the judge will consider a number of factors in determining:

  • Whether spousal support should be awarded
  • The amount of spousal support awarded
  • The duration of the spousal support award

An award of spousal support may be in addition to an award of child support. Since child support and spousal support are treated differently for tax purposes, it may be wise for clients to reach an agreement on all support issues that may prove mutually beneficial to both parties.

Support is not guaranteed simply because you were in a long-term marriage. If you need spousal support, you need a lawyer who understands how to effectively manage your case and fight for the best possible result on your behalf. Whether you are seeking support or opposing a support award, let us put our experience to work for you.
